When procrastinating, we are allowing doubts and fears to be magnified within our minds. Instead of moving forward and towards a resolution, we are moving away from happiness and satisfaction that we so long to achieve. This type of investment is disempowering. In order to have, be or do something different, we need to consciously see how we are spending our energy. Are we spending our energy positively or negatively? If we are trying to figure out what to do we are spending our energy negatively. Whenever we don't know what to do, we do what is referred to the mind-dance. Perhaps you're familiar with this dance -- it begins like this, I don't know what to do?! I don't know how to fix this?! I can't get this to work?!
This situation must be resolved although I don't know what to do?! And we perpetuate these same thoughts over and over which causes us to be frustrated. VERY FRUSTRATED. In acting in a limited manner, we are keeping ourselves stuck spending our energy negatively. And then, because we didn't resolve our so-called dilemma, we become anxious and even more frustrated. So we proceed to the next step of this dance which is referred to mentally disapproving of ourselves. This step only expends more negative energy.
The habit of spinning and doing the mind-dance is so deeply ingrained in most of us that we often fail to see that we are acting in an automatic and out-of-control manner. Trust that the habit of 'figuring things out' isn't capable of resolving any issue or concern that you're struggling with. The more that we are struggling (efforting)... the less peace of mind that we are experiencing. So if we are doing the mind-dance in this moment, we are succumbing to fear which is based on something from the past. The past isn't in present time. If we are doing the mind-dance, the investment of our time and energy is being spent trying to fix something from the past. We cannot change the past. We can only change how we feel about it. In truth, the only things we can change are things within our self.
In order for us to move forward, we have to DECIDE to do something other than remaining stuck in a web of uncertainty. The uncertainty is a distraction that we are keeping a float by continuing to figure out what's wrong. The uncertainty we are experiencing is allowing our fears to dictate what we can have or not have. By letting go of the figuring it out and procrastinating habits, we are able to move towards resolving whatever circumstances that we are experiencing.
